Kruse, MeganWhat is the title of your class?

Finding Your Genre

What’s one thing you hope your students will take away from the class?

Just like we need to work to find the lives that best represent us, so do we need to find the right mediums for our words.

What sorts of writers will you be reading/assigning in class? Why?

Writers who have written across and in-between genres to make their forms suit their intent.

Can your students connect with you on social media? If so, how?

Are any of your works online and available to the public?

Find links to my work on my website, and look out for my debut novel, Call Me Home, forthcoming from Hawthorne Books in March 2015.

What’s your teaching philosophy?

Somewhere, someone is writing something that will change your life.

What advice do you have about getting into the habit of writing regularly?

Be a grinding wheel, and forgive yourself.

What are you working on right now? Where did the idea come from?

I’m in the early stages of a second novel. It’s excruciating!

What’s your favorite word in the English vocabulary?

Phantasmagoria. Like the writing process.

Let’s talk writing inspiration—what’s the No. 1 thing that drives you to write?

I’ve always felt a deep longing to live a thousand lives.
