What is the title of your class?
Poetry Immersion

People should take this class because?
The class offers a very focused week of reading, writing, and talking about poetry.

Are any of your works online and available to the public? (If no, we’ll remove this question from your survey)
My second book of poems, Rough Day, was just published by Copper Canyon Press. It’s available in bookstores and on most e-readers.

What are you reading right now?
Hearing Sappho in New Orleans, by Ruth Salvaggio

Thresherphobe, by Mark Halliday

Foreign Bodies, by Karl Krolow

What excites you about the material you’re teaching?
We’ll be looking at poems by poets who have “betrayed” the rules of decorum in poetry of their day. Poets with more energy than existing forms can contain.

What do you like best about teaching at Hugo House?
The people I meet.

What books made you want to write?
Spring and All, by William Carlos Williams

If there was one piece of advice you could give an aspiring writer, what would it be?
Read what you enjoy.
