We’ll focus on the essential elements of the first ten pages of a memoir. What makes a reader (or editor!) want to keep reading? How do you quickly convey the essence of the story and grab the reader’s attention? What’s the difference between a prologue, a preface, and a first chapter? We will examine the first pages of popular and critically acclaimed memoirs and do some writing activities designed to help you with your memoir’s opening.
Beginning Fall 2021, we will be adding select in-person classes back to our course catalog. The majority of our classes will still be offered via Zoom.
If a class says IN-PERSON in its title, it will take place in person at our permanent home in Seattle.
If a class says ASYNCHRONOUS in its title, it will take place on Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform.
If a class does not have a marker after its title, it will take place via Zoom.
