In this generative poetry course, we’ll explore strategies for beginning poems by generating new and unexpected language. We’ll work through a series of in-class exercises designed to break old habits of writing and help you make use of even small, fractured amounts of time. We’ll find inspiration for poetic forms in unexpected places, setting you on a course to create new work in new ways.
Beginning Fall 2021, we will be adding select in-person classes back to our course catalog. The majority of our classes will still be offered via Zoom.
If a class says IN-PERSON in its title, it will take place in person at our permanent home in Seattle.
If a class says ASYNCHRONOUS in its title, it will take place on Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform.
If a class does not have a marker after its title, it will take place via Zoom.
Mark Wunderlich’s books include the Lambda Literary Award-winning The Anchorage (University of Massachusetts Press, 1999) and the forthcoming The Earth Avails (Graywolf, 2014). He has received the Wallace Stegner Fellowship from Stanford University.
