The Many Ways to be a Writer

Those with writerly aspirations often believe there is a single path to the writer’s life: write book, find agent, get publishing deal, get on Oprah. Maybe throw an MFA and teaching in there. This is a great road if it gets you to your destination. However, there are many ways to be a writer—and even make a living at it. We will discuss the literary path but also work-for-hire, self-publishing, essays, and more. You’ll gain tips on managing your expectations, getting started, being professional, promoting yourself, getting  paid, and creating your very own writer’s life.

Beginning Fall 2021, we will be adding select in-person classes back to our course catalog. The majority of our classes will still be offered via Zoom.

If a class says IN-PERSON in its title, it will take place in person at our permanent home in Seattle.

If a class says ASYNCHRONOUS in its title, it will take place on Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform.

If a class does not have a marker after its title, it will take place via Zoom.
