We’ll follow Whitman’s lead and “invite [our] soul[s].” We’ll divide our time between reading, generating new poems, and workshopping. We’ll read classic English and American poems regarding the soul by John Donne, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, and Richard Wilbur as well as contemporary poems. This class is for writers who enjoy discussion and for those who want to make an emotional impact with abstract concepts like soul.
Beginning Fall 2021, we will be adding select in-person classes back to our course catalog. The majority of our classes will still be offered via Zoom.
If a class says IN-PERSON in its title, it will take place in person at our permanent home in Seattle.
If a class says ASYNCHRONOUS in its title, it will take place on Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform.
If a class does not have a marker after its title, it will take place via Zoom.
John Wesley Horton (aka Johnny Horton) co-directs the University of Washington’s summer creative writing program in Rome. He’s received a Washington Artist Trust GAP grant and his poems appear in Poetry Northwest, Cutbank, Notre Dame Review, Borderlands, and The Los Angeles Review.
