How do we begin? Whether you have too many ideas or not enough, this course aims to help you lay the foundations for a strong short story or personal essay. From character to plot to setting, each class will explore a different, essential building block of narrative. Guided by engaging prompts and readings from the a diverse mix of writers including Anne Lamott, Amy Hempel, Junot Diaz and others, you’ll generate plenty of raw material. You’ll also set writing goals and give and receive feedback in a supportive environment. Beginners welcome!
Beginning Fall 2021, we will be adding select in-person classes back to our course catalog. The majority of our classes will still be offered via Zoom.
If a class says IN-PERSON in its title, it will take place in person at our permanent home in Seattle.
If a class says ASYNCHRONOUS in its title, it will take place on Wet Ink, our asynchronous learning platform.
If a class does not have a marker after its title, it will take place via Zoom.
